The wife got me to go look at some more cars today and so far we’ve looked at 3 of these and they are surprisingly a looker in person. And a steal. Such as this one. And quick. I’ve added this to my list. Anyone else like these?

2 funny, you were at Monza Car in the valley. They get some nice vehicles through there. Sometimes older ones.

Yea they do. Walking up though I thought I was going to see some beaters.

They’re better looking than the last gen.

I knew two people with them (one turbo one not). Neither one kept them longer than a year. Never asked why

You should have asked because I would like to know why too.

I do like them, actually just not enough to buy one myself. I do love my GTI though, which I imagine shares a literal ton of parts. The first gen new beetle was all about the flower power, but this one I can see as a Baja (which someone on here is doing), or as a hot rod with flames on the side. It’s a more masculine looking car.

Yea it is. It even has some Porsche like cues to it ( though that could just be me.) I have been looking at a GTi though. A 4 door 2013.

My guess is because they realized they were driving a less practical Golf.

About 2 months ago, my friend, Jerome , bought one as his first car. He has since replaced a catalytic converter, oil, and a window regulator as well as failing inspection, and to top it all off, the transmission stopped working two days ago. Talk about unreliability!

I have a 4door 2011 (mkvi) and love it. Hit 69k today , and the only problem I have with it is known to be and they’ve extended the warranty on it. Only thing I’d that they really mean premium gas, with a detergent. carbon buildup is real. Is the 2013 the current generation mkvii) or the previous?

My bad it’s a 2010.

It’s at Carmax for 15 grand and of course I would get the extended warranty just in case I run into any of those VW problems.

Who am I to judge? If you drive it and you like it, then buy it. I rent cars all the time, and if I had access to a Turbo, I’d take it. I’d even look like a girl and rent a Beetle Convertible - those are available, if I remember correctly. A Mini Convertible? No, but that’s based on a lack of mass. My rental of choice when I lived in DC was a Taurus. Went to rent a car to take the MD bar exam, and they were out of Taurii, so I wound up in a Cadillac Fleetwood. I was Morrie Seinfeld. After that, Enterprise had Volvo 850s and V70s, so that was my go to.

And sure, I’ll have the car for a week, and you’ll have it for years. But fuck ‘em if they have an issue ... it’s your car. It is yours to love.

Not at all; the current Beetle is a big improvement on the old bubble-mobile. It’s a lot closer to the classic profile of the air-cooled car unlike that abomination before it. The turbo just ups the fun factor.

I beg to differ, the trunk is huge in them. You just lose some height closer to the back of it.

I never considered them beetles until I saw that Chris Vallone has one as a daily.. I figure if he drives one when he could basically pick any year of beetle then it must have some merit.

Yeah. My favorite is the ones with the retro dish wheels. Especially on black pain. Just looks right.

I think they look great, especially with the heritage wheels. I wouldn’t touch one with a 10' pole, but they look great.
